Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating on the Isle of Wight
A great substitute for traditional methods of heating your home or workspace, underfloor heating removes the need for radiators which can dramatically free up space in your house.
There are essentially two types of underfloor heating: electric and water. At APB Plumbing and Heating we focus on water based systems.
Water underfloor heating relies on an extensive system of pipes that cover the majority of the floor. In comparison to radiators, the water used in underfloor heating system can be set at a much lower temperature to still effectively heat a room, making this form of heating more energy efficient.
Water based underfloor heating systems are more complicated and expensive to install than the electrical version but cheaper to run.
The main advantage of underfloor heating is comfort, due to the even distribution of heat, and the space saving aspect, which can lend your home to a tidier, more minimalistic appearance.
Ground Source Heating on the Isle of Wight
Ground source heating works by absorbing heat at low temperatures through a fluid running inside a loop of pipe buried underground. The fluid is then sent through a compressor which increases the temperature, which can then heat water for the heating and how water circuits of your home or workplace.
Ground source heat pumps are expensive to install but offer the lowest running cost of any renewable energy. They are most effective if you have underfloor heating.

Air Source Heating
Air Source Heating
Have you ever stood near or behind a fridge and felt the fan pushing out warm or hot air?
Well, an air source heat pump works in the opposite way. It uses electric (in the same way as a fridge) to push energy (heat) into your home and expel the cold air via the unit (mounted outside.)
For those of you visualizing your electricity meter ticking away, you might be surprised to know that the average air source heat pump is around 400% efficient. This means you put roughly a £1 in and you get approximately £4 worth of energy out!
